Constitution Hill is an internationally important symbol of the
new South Africa; born of the political process but now
independent of it; the home of the Law of the Constitution;
and the home of the guarantor of Human Rights for every
South African citizen.

Constitution Hill is located between Braamfontein and
Hillbrow and comprises 95,000 sq metres of publicly
owned land and properties. It hosts important heritage
buildings, including the Old Fort, Section 4 and 5
("Native Gaol") and the Women's Prison, and more recently
the new Constitutional Court of South Africa,which was
officially opened on Human Rigths day in 2004.

Strategic Objectives

The broad goal Constitution Hill is to bring this major
national and international heritage site into viable,
sustainable economic use, to create employment,
increase the rates base and promote economic
growth in Gauteng through the development of
visitor attractions.
